Creative SexEd Curricula

Art + Sex Ed: Creative Curricula
For their final project, students in Liz Slagus & Norene Leddy’s Collab: SexEd course at Parsons/The New School used all of the information they gleaned from guest speakers, readings, and class discussions to create four Art + Sex Ed workshops to run at Washington Irving High School Campus. Working with the themes of healthy relationships and consent, teams of 4-5 students designed and ran three-session workshops that combined art and one of these sex education themes. Each session was 45 minutes, and created for ages 14-18 in a variety of school settings (discussion groups, classrooms and cafeterias). PDFs are available for free download, and include curriculum, instructions for creating a tangible visual outcome (zine, game, stickers, etc.) and documentation of each session. We just ask that you credit our class and the students involved.

sextinggame
Sexting Game
Download instructions, templates, and documentation to make your own game about sexting and social media. The game facilitates conversations about difficult (but increasingly common) online scenarios by allowing students to create, analyze and figure out appropriate responses to a variety of situations. The download includes posters/handouts with little-known facts about the current laws that apply to sexting and social media.
healthyrelationshipprep
Healthy Relationship Prep
These three fun exercises (including a personal “dealbreakers” list, self-esteem slap bracelets and head/brain/heart relationship diagrams) help students to figure out their own boundaries in relationships. Self-esteem and self-acceptance are covered as the foundation for all kinds of healthy relationships.
me+u
me + u
This series of exercises includes making stickers, buttons, and a personally ‘notarized’ list of resolutions for a healthy relationship. The three sessions focus on defining aspects of healthy and unhealthy relationships, communication, and making guidelines for yourself while in an intimate relationship.
consentzine
Consent Zine
This project aims to explore many different ways of giving, receiving and entering into consent-related conversations in a healthy and considerate manner. A major part of this learning experience is the process of zine-making in which students are given an opportunity to freely explore the topic of consent in creative ways, while developing meaningful conversations.
