Wearing Consent at the Educational Alliance (January-February 2016)
A 3-session art + sex ed project that culminated in a public event open to the entire community of the Educational Alliance. SexEd, in collaboration with sex educator Nora Langknecht, worked with youth and staff from the Edgies Teen Center program to create temporary tattoos, t-shirts, consent definitions and and consent conversations. Woven throughout the sessions were discussions about art, activism, rape culture, and resources for accurate sexual health information.
Thanks to the Edgies staff and Stephanie Selekman who commissioned this project as part of her reproductive health grant from the Educational Alliance.
Our final public event included:
-
Tattoos and Consent Conversations: Edgies teens administered the temporary tattoos designed during the Wearing Consent program, using the tattoos as a means to engage EA community members in conversations about consent.

- Declaration of Consent: Youth and staff discussed and signed our collective definition of consent, and invited other EA community members to sign. (Our signed version.)
- Consent Runway: Edgies teens who created t-shirts during the program took a turn down our “red carpet” with music to give them their moment in the spotlight and a platform to present and talk about their design to the greater EA community.
- See more great photos of the Edgies teens t-shirt designs and runway.
- Consent Recordings: Teens at this station used SexEd’s audio recorder to capture different EA community member’s definitions of consent as well as their own.
- Hear the Edgies teens and others talk about consent and their consent-themed art projects.
